Botox injections use a toxin called onobotulinumtoxinA to temporarily prevent a muscle from moving, much like a muscle relaxer. This massively popular injectable has been used for many years by dermatologists for its amazing anti-aging effects on wrinkles and facial creases.
Cosmetically, it is primarily best used to treat wrinkles around the areas of facial expressions– frown lines, between the eyebrows, and wrinkles that form around the outside of the eyes. Doctors typically use it for forehead lines, under-eye wrinkles, bunny lines on the nose, and lines around the lips. In addition to its cosmetic purposes, Botox has a variety of non-cosmetic applications that go beyond aesthetics.
At Vitality Medical Center, we want to help you achieve a positive self-image. A trained healthcare professional will safely administer the FDA-approved Botox to make you feel and look your best!
Because Botox is a minimally invasive treatment, there is no preparation and no downtime. You may be asked to pause taking blood-thinning herbal supplements and over-the-counter medications like aspirin, naproxen, and ibuprofen to minimize bruising after the procedure.
On the day of your session, it is advised to show up with a clean face and no makeup.
Our provider may apply a numbing agent to the treatment site or apply an ice pack to maximize your comfort. A series of injections will be given to the targeted muscles.
Don’t let the word “toxin” scare you. Botox does not cause disease. It was approved for medical uses as far back as 1989 and was eventually approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) for use in cosmetic procedures in 2002.
For those areas that are treated with the Botox procedure, you should see results in at least 10 days.
Botox lasts anywhere from 3-6 months, with 4 months being the average. Botox is absorbed by the body over time and eventually eliminated. Over time, your muscle activity will eventually return to normal.
Botox is a temporary but highly effective form of treatment. The treatment on average is only effective for about 12 weeks.
Not every patient’s experience is the same based on age, wrinkles and how effective the Botox is, but most patients are satisfied with getting Botox every three to four months on average.
People generally tolerate Botox injections well, and side effects are uncommon.
The most common side effect reported from Botox injections is pain at the injection site(s)which can be remedied with cold compresses or over-the-counter pain reducers.
Minor bruising or discomfort may occur, but should improve within a few days. Contact your provider immediately if any more serious side effects occur.
